A Sensitive Skin Using Wireless Tactile Sensing Elements

چکیده
In order to realize a wide area of a soft sensor skin covering the entire body of robots, several ideas of wireless tactile elements have been presented[1][2]. But those papers described only the sensing chip designs, and no methods of their equipment on a real robot had been shown. In this paper we propose a 1-D film coil array to power wireless tactile sensor chips and obtain sensing signals from them. The film is attached on a robot bone first, and we cover it with a sensor skin containing wireless sensing elements. Since the skin can move on the bone freely, the skin does not prevent large motions of robot body. The tactile elements without wires bring a tough and elastic sensor skin. The design of the film coil array and results of wireless signal transmission using a new type of wireless sensing element are shown.

Wireless Tactile Sensing Element Using Stress-Sensitive Resonator
Robots that work with humans require a soft sensor skin to cover the entire body. In this paper, we propose a new method to realize such a skin. By implanting wireless sensing elements in an elastic body, we obtain an elastic and tough sensor skin which is able to be shaped freely. The element is a passive resonator chip whose resonant frequency reflects the stress around the chip. The resonant...

Abstract: A key to realize an elastic sensor skin that covers the entire body of machines is removing metal wires to tactile sensing elements. Using wireless tactile sensing chips based on RF connection is a hopeful method, which was proposed recently. However, it is difficult to make the RF tactile sensing element smaller than several millimeters because the energy transmission efficiency decr...
متن کاملDigital Tactile Sensing Elements Communicating through Conductive Skin Layers
In this paper, we propose a tactile sensing element that communicates through two dimensional conductive skin layers without individual wires. Each tactile element has sensors and signal processors, and it broadcasts coded tactile signals through a couple of conductive layers. Since the conductive layers can be used for both the electrical power supply and the communication, simply sandwiching ...
متن کاملTactile Sensor Without Wire and Sensing Element in the Tactile Region using New Rubber Material
Recently the idea of covering a robot's surface with a ‘skin’ of soft tactile sensors has attracted the attention of researchers, and some human-interactive robots covered with such sensors have actually been made (Tajima et al., 2002; Kanda et al., 2002). However, most conventional tactile sensors need a large number of sensing elements and wires because every detection point needs one sensing...
متن کاملPiezoresistive Tactile Sensor Discriminating Multidirectional Forces
Flexible tactile sensors capable of detecting the magnitude and direction of the applied force together are of great interest for application in human-interactive robots, prosthetics, and bionic arms/feet. Human skin contains excellent tactile sensing elements, mechanoreceptors, which detect their assigned tactile stimuli and transduce them into electrical signals. The transduced signals are tr...
